Integration of Sustainability into Indonesian Textile Industry

Eurovet Group, the organizer and the sister office of Comexposium and La Federation de la Lingerie et de la maille which is the leading international trade show events for lingerie, swimwear and active-wear supply chain Interfilière, in partnership with sequa gGmbH  has been initiated a development project under the Programme of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project started in 2018 with four selected textile and lingerie manufacturer in Indonesia namely PT Kewalram Indonesia, PT Sina Para Taruna, WSK Winner Sumbiri Knitting Factory, and PT Busanaremaja Agracipta with the aim to integrate and promote sustainable and circular lingerie manufacturer from Indonesia through awareness creation, capacity building, knowledge transfer, practical implementations and participation in international trade fairs.

In the framework of the project, all four factories have improved their sustainable practices in regard to chemical management, waste management, and worker’s health and safety through the guidance and supervision of the international sustainability consultancy suPPPort Ltd. Furthermore, a circular lingerie prototype collection has been developed by upcycling the factory’s waste. The selected factories have participated at the Interfilière trade fair Hong Kong in 2019 and now participating in Interfilière Shanghai 2020 through the international digital platform Interfilière Connect. Eurovet is excited to present these four Indonesian lingerie suppliers at the fairs and showcase their progress to an international audience.


PT Kewalram Indonesia (Kewalram) had started their journey by installing a spinning mill in 1976 in Bandung, Indonesia. Since then, they have grown to become a large integrated textile facility covering spinning, embroidery, and a dye house equipped with state-of-the-art machineries. Their products are exported to over 60 countries across the globe in four continents, reflecting company’s strong commitment and emphasis on quality. The company also has a substantial presence in the domestic markets with a wide range of products offering.

The quality of the yarns from Kewalram as well as their laces has made it possible to create lingerie collections, combining qualitative materials for a ready-to-wear approach. They use antibacterial finishing, recycled raw material, and organic cotton for their products.

Kewalram is focused on bringing sustainability in their operation and currently has international standards according to BCI, GOTS, OCS, GRS, RCS, Oeko-tex std 100, ISO 9001:2015, and ZDHC contributor. Kewalram is always looking for opportunities to improve the overall environment, social, and quality standards. They installed a new jet dyeing machine of 1000kg capacity to save time, resources like electricity, water, steam & chemical, etc. Furthermore, they installed an eight-unit high-speed embroidery machine, which will also save resources like electricity, oil & grease, etc., and provide a faster lead time for orders.


PT Sinar Para Taruna (Sipatatex) specializes in top-quality warp-knitted lace and tricot fabrics for intimates, outerwear, house wear, and sportswear. Their history is marked by continuous expansion and investments in cutting edge technologies and machinery. They are currently working with recycling polyester and nylon and supplying quality laces to renowned buyers like Adidas and H&M.

In order to increase the infrastructure capacity and to ensure the protection of natural resources, Sipatatex has built a recycling water treatment plant with EU accredited technology which will allow them to recycle 70% of its wastewater. Moreover, environmentally and socially responsible production conditions of their factory is certified by Oek-tex 100. Additionally, through the ongoing project, they are working towards the elimination of hazardous chemicals from their manufacturing process according to the requirements of Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC).


WSK Winner Sumbiri Knitting Factory (WSK) specializes in circular and wrap knits with over 30 years of experience in fabric manufacturing for ladies underwear, lingerie, swimwear, sportswear. They produce quality fabrics using synthetic yarns of Nylon, Polyester, and Elastane fiber to provide a range of fabrics including Microfiber, Satin Nets, Shinny Satins, Power Nets, Simplex fabrics, Sleek Nets, etc. Continuous usage of high-quality fabric and top-notch quality has made a loyal customer base for WSK among leading US, European, Asian, and Australian brands in the intimate apparel industry.

As a manufacturer, WSK is highly aware of their responsibility to extend and improve the environmental sustainability not only to restore the ecological balance and safeguard human health but also to bring value to their customer. They use waste gas or heat for air conditioning and steam boiler to save resources like electricity, gas, etc. Also, to reduce the huge amount of water used in dye-house and to eliminate the discharge of chemical water into river or canal, they re-cycle the treated water up to international standard. Through the training and guidance, WSK is receiving from the ongoing project, they are becoming more sustainable in terms of waste management, chemical management as per ZDHC, and workers health and safety.


PT Busanaremaja Agracipta (BRA Indo) is a garment manufacturer, offering its customers the full service from design and pattern development to garment production and export of lingerie and activewear. The product range covers everything from women’s lingerie like bras to shapewear, swim- and activewear as well as all related components such as foam pads, underwire, and hook & eyes. All three production facilities of BRA Indo are WRAP, Oeko-tex 100, and BSCI certified and the company is stressing constant effort to improve sustainability practices. Through the ongoing sustainability project, they are implementing appropriate and responsible chemical usage and management, according to the requirements of Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC).
